Splinter Cell Double Agent

Ever since the first Splinter Cell I’ve been hooked to the series, but never really bothered too much about the single player. Multiplayer has always been the main reason I played the games.

Splinter Cell Double Agent is different. Not only is the single player divers and brings new elements with the trust system, but it also shows off some impressive graphics and good AI.

I started my first playthrough on hard which made it really difficult on the last few missions, starting with the cruise ship and there on, but I’m glad I’ve done it as it forced me to play the game a lot more stealthily than I would’ve done otherwise. And it was very satisfying to finally complete it after being stuck on the last mission for over 6 hours and restarting it.

The multiplayer has got me completely hooked. Both the Co-Op challenges and the Versus mode. The Versus mode is a lot simplified to Chaos theory with the spies only having a selection of 4 gadgets and no more stun gun and the mercs having one gun, 3 grenades and 2 spy drones. The maps are well thought out and offer the spies enough opportunities against the clearly more advanced mercs.

However, and this is a BIG however, I’ve experienced quite a few problems with this game and my 360. I’ve had about 50 odd crashes, some multiplayer related, some in the single player. My saves on one level were completely wiped and I had to restart it. Thankfully that was on the beginning of the levels. Ubisoft did release an AU after the game was out for 2 days which was meant to fix most issues. Well, I had about 90% of the issues after the AU. Hmmm….

All in all this has to be the best 360 game I have played since Oblivion. I’ll keep on playing the multiplayer for a good while, maybe until Rainbow Six Vegas comes out. :D

Edit: I’ve had so many people search for this, that I’ve created a seperate post on how to possible avoid crashes. You can find that here. Hope that helps. :D

Yeah, the game has been changed slightly. The Co-Op mode is still on the Xbox, but not the 360 version sadly.

Check out the other post I made on how to avoid some crashes. Hope it helps. :)

the game crashes… with the error of
    TRY disableing NON-VeTREX SHADERS
and then 2 screens pop up on after the error with the name of Microsoft Visual C++ library runtime…

my pc doesn t meet the tehnical requirement : i have 2.4ghz processor (Intel Pentium) + 512 DDRAM (400mhz) + a GeForce Fx5200 (128mb/128bits) … but i set the resolution to 640×480… and i have disabled all the texture details (effects)

and yes… i have patched the game to 1.02

Problem of game crashing when loading still persists even after the patch 1.02 upgrade. Something is very wrong with that title.

The big problem for all of you is that the PC version’s minimum requirement is a shader 3.0 graphics card, a Geforce FX 5200 is shader 2.0, and that crash for your housemate is exactly the same, cos that’s where mine crashes too, I have a Geforce FX 5500,

If you want to buy a new card to run the game, the first shader 3.0 cards are:

    Nvidia Geforce 6 and above,
ATI X1*** and above, note the stars can be any number, basically anything above 1000.

One more thing, Ubisoft say they are not going to release a patch to run the game on shader 2.0 cards!

    Thanks for that information.

Are there no mods or patches from the community that can combat this problem?

Sorry, none yet, I’m checking through the files to see which one(s) set the shaders. (no it’s not in the shader folder!(

The files in the Shaders folder ARE the shaders, they don’t SET the Shaders!
If they did, simple text editting is all it takes!

I built a new computer for someone just over a week ago and the guy has been playing SC: Double Agent on it a good bit. The game crashes quite a bit while playing, as others have experienced. The new PC is a AMD Athlon X2 5400+, with 2gb RAM, and a GeForce 7950GT video card. I shouldn’t have the Shader problem since I believe this card has 3.0. I’m going to try patch 1.02. Is there anything else that could be causing the crashes? He tried an older game (some VietCong game) and it crashes once in awhile, but not nearly as often. Could there be some issue with it being a dual processor, 64-bit, and Windows XP? The errors he gets are Windows errors, saying the game has encountered an error, and it says the error is related to the main EXE game file.

Any thoughts? I’m stumped.. I’ve ran all hardware tests and everything checks out fine from what I can tell.

    Did the patch help?

The game was made glitchy, and Ubi hardly tried to fix that!

Oh yeah, and sorry I’ve hardly been posting, I’m trying to get Halo 2 Vista to run on Windows XP at the moment, I’m about half way through getting it to work, so I’ll probably not post here unless I find a Shader 2.0 Fix for this game.

The game seems to do that with shader 4.0 cards (yours is a shader 4.0).

I think it something to do with directX 10. check the internet for a patch, I’m sure there is one.

The game had issues with the gforce 8 series, was a driver problem, run the latest nvidia drivers and patch the game to most recent version and u should be fine, i experience no issues on a x2 4200, 2gb ddr400 ram and 8800gts 640mb card, make sure if your running the x2 to install amd dual core patch found at amd’s website and the windows xp hotfix for dual core systems. Also it runs fine on vista just make sure if your using a gforce 7 or 8 series you download hotfix for vista and virtual memory involving the gforce cards. Hope this helps someone.

ive been having issues in the game where all the characters move around slower than usual and the audio is out of sync to the video. I tried just using one core for the game and it ran fine, i downloaded the AMD dual core optimizer, and the AMD drivers for my processor, and still .. works crap.

@Dave, whats the xp hotfix you speak of?

Wow this game is really bad. The fact that Ubisoft decide to leave it dead in the water for the majority of users is another blow to their already blandly average reputation for me.
I’m glad I got this game included with my CPU from Newegg. Means I can sell it and move on from another Ubisoft catastrophe.

    Useless.

    Again thanks though. :)
