501st Legion at the Rose Parade

As 2007 is the 30th anniversary of the very first Star Wars film (A New Hope), this year’s Rose Parade (a yearly parade in Pasadena, California) had a special contribution by the 501st Legion, a group of dedicated Star Wars fans.

They had this to add on their site:

The last day of Rose Parade preparation has come to an end. After presenting George Lucas with a Stormtrooper helmet autographed by 200 parade-attending 501st members and a personalized 501st Legion letterman jacket, the troops performed a quick series marching routines for Grand Marshal Lucas at the Pasadena training grounds. Satisfied with the presentation, the team of drill instructors (comprised of the Legion’s own experienced members led by Col. Anthony Toledo) released the troops to enjoy a few short hours of “down time” before launching 2007 in Star Wars style. Not only is the new year the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, but also the 10th anniversary of the 501st Legion.

It looks like it was a great event.

    That is so awesome..

    Must’ve taken forever to coordinate

Yeah, it must have. They almost walk in perfect unison.

I find it a lot more impressive that all the floats are made out of flowers.

  3. Matt says:

So that big tree is real? Wow.

  4. carocat says:

I think it is, yeah. And all the other materials are made out of flower petals. This is what Wikipedia says:

“While many distinct changes have taken place with the Festival’s floats, including computer-aided movement and professional float building, the floats have kept true to the event’s title and heritage, by using real, fresh flowers.
The sheer number of flowers required by a single float in its decoration is more than the average American florist will use in five years of operation. According to the Tournament Association, all flowers are donated.”

    Sounds very impressive to me.
